The Building Safety Pioneer Programme (BSPP)

Organised by the Buildings Department (BD), co-organised currently by the Education Bureau (EDB) and Hong Kong Education City (HKEdCity) and supported by HKIA, HKIE & HKIS, the Building Safety Pioneer Programme (BSPP) was officially launched in 2014 and the new BSP will be recruited at mid of every year in order to promote building safety to secondary students continuously with sense of awareness and responsibility towards their living environment.

The Building Safety Pioneer Programme (BSPP) includes:

“Building Safety Pioneer (BSP)”

Secondary school students who are appointed will go through the one-year BSPP which is designed to assist students to have better understanding on the importance of building safety , owners’ responsibilities, the duties of various stakeholders involved in the building management and maintenance including BD, building professionals (architects, engineers and surveyors) and property management companies. Through participating in interactive activities, their awareness on the building safety and interest on the career development in the construction industry will be promoted and they will be hoped to make a safe, high quality and sustainable Hong Kong built environment in future.

“Most Supportive School Award”

All Hong Kong secondary school students are invited to visit the BD’s thematic website’s “Care For Your Building” at www.careyourbuilding.bd.gov.hk and play the three online games “Building Pioneers” ,“Defect Shooter” and "Minor Works Go Go Go". Students can support their schools to win the “Most Supportive School Award” by actively participating in the three games.

“Building Safety Pioneer Programme” 2018-19

Organised by the Buildings Department and co-organised by the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Education City, the Buildings Safety Pioneer Programme (BSPP) promotes building safety among young people and to develop their concerns and sense of responsibility for the living environment. This year, the BSPP will kick-off in mid-July 2018.

Each secondary school may nominate 5 students between F.2-F.4 in the 2018/19 school year for the one-year BSPP. 12 secondary schools with a total of about 60 students will be selected.

The BSPP aims to facilitate students’ understanding of the importance of building safety and the responsibility of the owners, as well as the roles of the Buildings Department, building professionals and property management companies. Through various workshops and visits, participating students will learn to recompose song lyrics and produce a music video to promote building safety.

Television Commercial Production Workshop

The biggest challenge for this year's Building Safety Pioneers (BSPs) is to produce a 30-second television commercial for the Buildings Department (BD) to promote building safety. To assist the BSPs in accomplishing the task, the BD organised a workshop on 18 November by inviting professional advertising design instructors to teach the BSPs some handy design skills for producing TV commercials. Everyone looks forward to the BSPs’ masterpieces.

Joint Talk by Building Professionals
11 November 2017

The annual Joint Talk organised for the Building Safety Pioneers (BSPs) was held on 11 November at the Building Information Centre. The representatives of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors shared with the BSPs their professional experience in the building industry. They also participated in the game session with the BSPs by guiding them to use limited staples and paper to construct a cantilevered structure which could support a number of bottled water. The BSPs benefitted a lot from the group discussion session following the game.
