【Owner prosecuted for failing to comply with a statutory notice】

Hey hey hey!  Buildings should be regularly inspected and maintained, especially for those aged over 30 years. Prevention is better than cure!  An owner was recently prosecuted for failing to comply with a statutory notice for Mandatory Building Inspection, which required the appointment of a registered inspector to carry out an inspection and repair of the common parts of a 66-year-old residential building.  The owner was fined over $30,000.

Build & Ding Reminders:
Pursuant to section 40(1BC) of the Buildings Ordinance, any person who, without reasonable excuse, fails to comply with a statutory notice served on him commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine at level 5 ($50,000 at present) and to imprisonment for 1 year, as well as a further fine of $5,000 for each day that the offence has continued.
