Building safety tips

【Unqualified person fined $60,000 for carrying out minor works illegally】

Hey hey hey!  Property owners must appoint qualified registered contractors to carry out minor works to ensure safety.  A workshop in an industrial building was recently found being subdivided into several units, in which a number of minor works items were involved.  Not being a prescribed registered contractor, the person who carried out the works was convicted and fined $60,000!

Build & Ding Reminders:

Pursuant to the Buildings Ordinance, any person other than a prescribed registered contractor or a person acting under the supervision of any such contractor, who, without reasonable excuse, certifies or carries out minor works shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of $100,000 and to imprisonment for 6 months, and to a fine of $5,000 for each day that the offence has continued.
